We Crown You Lord (all hail the power)

I love hymns! One of my favourites is All Hail The Power of Jesus' Name by Edward Perronet. Many regard this as the church's "national anthem", but there is a great missionary story to this worship standard...

E P Scott was cornered on the mission field, the local tribes ready to spear him. Scott closed his eyes, pulled out his violin and begin singing "All Hail", believing death was imminent. He opened his eyes and saw every spear lowered, some of the men in tears. All Hail the Power of Jesus Name indeed!!

I read that story and felt this song and its themes cannot be forgotten. "We Crown You Lord" is my humble attempt at reinventing this classic. The verse begins word for word, while the rest paraphrases the great truths throughout the hymn. And while the chorus and bridge are new, they too draw on Perronet's inspired writing. I don't pretend this could rival the old hymn, this is simply a new twist on it.

VERSE 1
All hail the power of Jesus' Name
Let angels prostrate, fall
Bring forth the royal diadem
All hail the Maker of all things
Created by His words
All hail the King above all kings

CHORUS
We crown You Lord of all

God of the heavens, Lord of creation
We crown You Lord of all, Jesus
We crown You Lord of all
God of the ages, Lord of the nations
We crown You Lord of all, Jesus

VERSE 2
All hail the sinless One, whose blood
Has saved us from the fall
All hail our Saviour and our God
All hail the Risen, Glorious Son
Who conquered sin and death
All hail the Lamb, our victory won!

BRIDGE
We, the redeemed, in unity declare

We join the eternal song
Before the nations, we stand together
And crown You Lord of all

I pray these words bless you. For those interested, there is a recording of this online -

All That I Desire

It would be remiss of me to mention "You Alone" and not mention this song. Back in the early days I was told to revise the original version of "You Alone". In doing so, I found the song was trying to say too much - many of my early songs particularly suffered from this! The themes involved would be better served in two separate songs. "All That I Desire" is what came out. Alludes to Romans 12 as well as Isaiah 64.

VERSE 1
Lord I offer this life in surrender
Lay before You my every agenda
I was made for Your purpose
To bring honour to Your great name, Lord

VERSE 2
Like the clay in the hands of the potter
Let my life Lord, be so yielded to You
In my life, build Your purpose
To bring honour to Your great name, Lord

CHORUS
All I want to be... is to be more like You
More like You, Jesus
All that I desire... is to bring You glory
To bring You glory, Lord

VERSE 3
Be my vision, let me never wander
To this world and all it has to offer
Let my heart bring devotion
Praise and honour to Your great name, Lord

If you would like to hear this, or use this at your church please do let me know. More songs to come shortly!

You Alone Are Worthy

Ok so on with the songs... first off, I'll share You Alone Are Worthy. This was my first song, based around Romans 12 and Isaiah 53. I wrote this several years ago, but added the third verse and the bridge about 2 years back.

VERSE 1

By Your stripes I'm healed... by Your grace I'm free

A love so undeserved... You showered over me

VERSE 2

Take my dreams and plans... in my life, have Your way

All I have is Yours... may I glorify Your name

CHORUS

We lay our lives down... at the foot of the cross

As living worship to You, Lord

We pray that we might... be pleasing in Your sight

You alone are worthy, Lord

VERSE 3

Now Your fire burns... deep within my soul

Your love, so unreserved...
I'll take into Your world

BRIDGE

You are worthy, Lord... to receive all praise

You are worthy, Lord... of these lives You've saved

Our hearts, we raise

I hope these words bless you... have not recorded this yet, please let me know if you would like to hear this, or use this at your church (sheet music, chords etc are available)

Introducing...

Hey everyone, welcome to my blog, glad you've stopped by!

For the benefit of those who don't know me, I just want to use this first post to introduce myself. My name is Andrew, I'm a Christian musician hailing from Sydney, Australia. My beautiful Cherryl and I have been married almost 5 years, and we were blessed with a gorgeous one-year-old daughter Elisha... more on them later.

So... what's this all about? This blog will be a few things but primarily I will be sharing songs that God has graciously given me.

It is my prayer that these songs will touch hearts and move us all to focus our attention on a God worthy of every bit of praise we can bring. Most of my songs are worship songs - they are meant to be sung either in personal or church worship. I will be posting lyrics up here, but some of these will also have audios which can be heard via myspace (www.myspace.com/andrewmihaleff).

Please contact me if you are keen to use these songs at your church. I don't know where this journey will take us, I only know that my prayer is that God is honoured and people's lives are impacted with these songs.

So that's it for now... more posts to come!! Be blessed!!
